According to an earlier report, New Celtic signing Marvin Compper will now have to wait until a month before making his competitive debut for the Scottish Premiership leaders.

The Bhoys could be ready to step up their chase to sign another centre-back after it was revealed that Compper has been hit with a calf injury and could face up to a month on the sidelines.

According to the Daily Record, the Bhoys are looking to sign Dusko Tosic from Besiktas and reporting from Turkish outlets claim that the Scottish champions have made a bid of around €3 million.

However, part of the report garnered from Turkish outlet also say that the Super Lig giants have told the Bhoys must increase their offer to around €4 million for his signature to land the player.

The Serbian international is much like Marvin Compper in terms of playing style and experience and is also the same age at 32. Tosic, however, is naturally a centre-half but can also be utilized in the left-back position.

He has been capped a total of 21 time for his country and also played in all Besiktas’ six Champions League group stage games.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the media last month, he claimed he was happy with playing life in Istanbul but would understand if the Turkish side chose to sell him.

Dusko Tosic - Football Weeks
Dusko Tosic

“I have been receiving offers for the past couple of years.

In truth, I am very happy in Istanbul. I am enjoying the best time of my life here. We win titles, we are challenging with the best teams in the world and have brilliant fans.

I want to stay at this great club unless the board has different plans for me. I respect their decision but if they don’t want to sell me then I’m definitely staying here and will fight for my Jersey.”

If Tosic was to join Celtic this month, it would definitely be a smart move as, like Besiktas, the Hoops are regularly competing for trophies, are also involved in European football and have a world-renowned fan base.

With the recent exit of Erik Svaitchenko on loan to Midtjylland and the aforementioned injury to new signing, Compper, Celtic may have not to worry in the defensive areas, as Tosic would perfectly slot in right into the team.

The only obstacle I think could deter his move to the Celtic could be the higher valuation of €4 million from Besiktas for the defender and this might put an end to Celtic’s interest in him as they may not want to spend much on an older defender having signed similar player in his age.
