Real Madrid’s Numbers in the Champions League: The King of The UCL

Real Madrid is one of the most successful football clubs in the world and their achievements in the UEFA Champions League are simply incredible. Even their former fierce rival from Barcelona times said recently that you ‘can’t want to win the UCL every year unless you’re Real Madrid’.

The club has won the competition a record 14 times, cementing their place as the most successful team in the history of the tournament. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the records that Real Madrid has set in the Champions League over the years.

Most Champions League Titles

This one is pretty obvious, but it’s impressive to compare the record of Los Blancos with the other European giants. The white side of Madrid has won 14 times. Fourteen. Even many years ago, during an interview, former captain and club legend Iker Casillas was answering a question about some issues that were going on, and he referred to the big picture saying ‘we’re chasing the 10th title! The 10th!’. The argument was pretty solid. And as Real Madrid won so many titles in a row, they now have 100% more titles than second-place AC Milan which boasts seven titles. Liverpool and FC Bayern have 6 and aren’t even close to the Madridistas. It would probably take at least a decade of a potentially long crisis at Real Madrid to see any rival beat them in this ranking. Impressive is the word that comes to mind.

Most Consecutive Titles

Real Madrid won an unprecedented three Champions League titles in a row between 2016 and 2018. No other team has achieved this and it highlights the level of dominance that Real Madrid had over European football during this period. The team was led by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, and Gareth Bale, who all played pivotal roles in the club’s success.

Most Appearances in the UCL Final

This one is a natural consequence of the power of the reigning Champions and the number of titles. But it’s still very impressive.

Real Madrid has appeared in the final of the Champions League a record 17 times. The fact that they won 14 out of 17 Finals is quite impressive too. That’s a success rate of 82%!

Final games are followed by the entire global community of football, but sometimes, it may be hard to follow all games, especially during the play-offs when there are games being played at the same time. For that reason, Champions League API solutions are quite important for online newspapers and apps to keep the fans engaged, for example, with live scores, as they seek real-time information and team news.

Most Goals Scored

Real Madrid has scored incredible 1041 goals by the time this article was made. That’s more than 200 goals above the 2nd place FC Bayern Münich which boasts 803 goals. Fierce rivals Barcelona are third in the list with 667 goals, which shows how far ahead Real Madrid is in this ranking too.

Most Wins

Real Madrid has won a total of 282 Champions League matches, which is almost twice the number of games that Barça have won (they rank third at this record ranking too, with 197 victories).

Of course, it’s a natural thing to see the biggest champion winning more than any other team, but it’s still incredible if you consider that most clubs in Europe feel lucky just to participate in the biggest football competition in the world.
