Andy Carroll

According to The Sunday Post, West Ham United striker Andy Carroll could be an “option” for Scottish champions Celtic in regards to January signings.

The 29-year-old played alongside Rangers boss Steven Gerrard at Liverpool, and has only just returned from a lengthy injury for the Hammers.

The chances of the former Liverpool man joining Celtic remains bleak for now, but given the financial elements of such a transfer, it would be in Rangers’ best hope that the transfer doesn’t happen.

The reigning Scotland champions are only one point ahead of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table, and the signing of Carroll would surely give Brendan Rodgers’ men an edge over arch-rivals Rangers in the league.

When fit in his best days, Carroll has proven himself a very capable goalscorer in the Premier League, which means he could wreck havoc in Scotland and this will be a good news for Celtic supporters.

Carroll, who currently earns around £90,000 per week with West Ham, would further add boost to Rodger’s attack, an aerial threat in attack which is something the Hoops lack.

Despite leading Rangers with just one point, the Hoops are still huge favourites to win an eighth successive league title. Hoops boss already has a great squad at the moment and the signing of the Hammers’ forward might just be a big nail in Rangers’ coffin as far as their title ambition goes.
