Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi believes Chelsea will agree a deal for Miralem Pjanic this summer. He’s also expecting ex-Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte is still manager of the Blues, but Sarri should replace him in the coming weeks when compensation packages are agreed. Pjanic could be his first signing, with Chelsea linked with a £70m deal for the Bosnian international.
The 28-year-old, who joined Juventus in 2016, is one of the best midfielders in Serie A. He’s made 91 appearances for the Old Lady in all competitions, winning two league titles and two Coppa Italias. Pjanic would certainly improve the Chelsea midfield, but Juve are desperate to keep him in Turin.
With the Blues finishing outside of the Premier League top-four for the second time in three seasons, big changes need to be made at Stamford Bridge. Their midfield has suffered after the loss of Nemanja Matic, while the likes of Danny Drinkwater, Ross Barkley and Tiémoué Bakayoko have struggled to impress.
Cesc Fabregas is Chelsea’s playmaker, but the Spanish international is 31 and has been on the decline in the last 12 months. He made just four assists in 32 league games last season and has only one year left on his contract. Pjanic would be an upgrade, but he wouldn’t come cheap at £70m. Time will tell if Chelsea have some success landing his signature.
