According to The S*n, Arsenal are hoping to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans to bolster their backline this summer. The Northern Ireland international could be available for £3m after Albion’s relegation to the Championship and the Gunners are keen to procure his signature.

Evans joined West Brom from Manchester United in 2015 and has gone on to make over 90 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands outfit. He’s been linked with a move away from the Hawthorns all season and is expected to join a new club as Albion will soon ply their trade in the Championship.

Arsenal could be short in defence ahead of next season, with Per Mertesacker hanging up his boots to become the Gunners’ new Head of Academy while Laurent Koscielny could miss some of next season after suffering a serious achilles injury.

Evans has plenty of Premier League experience and made 198 appearances for Manchester United in his past, winning three Premier League titles, two League Cups and one Champions League trophy. He’ll turn 31 over the course of next season but could be a decent short-term option that won’t break the bank. Arsenal may be one of many clubs keen on the £3m defender.
