According to the Mirror, Manchester United could sell Anthony Martial this summer to fund a big money-move for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale.
United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly ‘lost patience’ working with the 22-year-old and is now willing to let him go at the end of the season as a result.
Signed from AS Monaco in 2015, the French international has struggled for playing time this season – making 16 starts from 26 league appearances and being substituted in 13 of the outings.
Juventus are believed to be keen on Martial and lead Arsenal in the race for his signature. There’s been no official approach yet but that could change this summer.
The Europa League holders will use the Martial money to sign a direct replacement in the form of Bale, a player they’ve been linked with for many years. The 28-year-old could set them back around £52.4m.
However, Los Blancos may not sell their star man without finding a replacement. Chelsea’s Eden Hazard has been linked but there’s been no progress made on procuring his signature.
Bale’s future is Real is nevertheless uncertain as his injury problems have limited his playing time ever since he made the move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.
United aren’t short of attackers, with Martial joined by Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata in the squad, but he could be on the way out in the coming months.
