According to Daily Record, Celtic are ready to speak to Scott Bain’s representatives over a permanent deal this summer and are also close to agreeing a new deal for defender Kristoffer Ajer.

As for Bain, the on-loan goalkeeper is out of contract with Dundee at the end of the season and could be recruited by manager Brendan Rodgers after impressing between the sticks in recent weeks.

He was signed by Celtic on loan in January for the remainder of the campaign, initially as back up for Craig Gordon and Dorus de Vries, and has gone on to make three league appearances since March, keeping two clean sheets for his troubles.

The 26-year-old is reportedly desperate to stay with the defending champions and won’t cost them a penny given his contract expires in a matter of months.

Bain brings a lot of experience to the side, having played for Aberdeen, Elgin City, Alloa Athletic and Hibernian.

He’s spent four years at Dundee, making 124 appearances in all competitions, and could be staying at Celtic for the foreseeable future.

With Craig Gordon struggling with injury and de Vries struggling for consistency and turning 38 later this year, Rodgers has identified a squad player who could threaten for a regular starting place if he continues to impress between the sticks.

The Daily Record say talks with Ajer are moving along well. Celtic have been desperate to tie the coveted defender down to a new deal, having opened discussions last month, so an announcement could be made this summer.
