Kris Commons was highly critical of Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata following the Belgian display in the 3-2 win over Rangers at Ibrox.

Boyata turned showed a poor performance in the Old Firm clash at the weekend, but his side still prevailed as narrow winners in the league clash.

Rangers took the lead in the first-half to leave the tie 2-2 going into half-time and Celtic defender Jozo Zimunovic was sent off shortly into the second period.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ men managed to dig deep with a man less and substitute Odsonne Edouard even managed a winning goal to earn three points at Ibrox.

Sky Sports pundit Commons has still criticized Boyata for his individual efforts on Sunday and insists that it was “schoolboy stuff” at times.

“There was always a risk in Rodgers throwing Boyata back into the deep end after time out injured,” Commons wrote in the Daily Mail.

“But what is he thinking about? He tried to be cute and clever. In the first three minutes in a game of this magnitude, it was schoolboy stuff.

“If you haven’t played for a while, you tell yourself to keep it simple. He’ll have done that yet forgotten when he crossed the line.

“It didn’t kick him into gear. He was pushed over too easily at the second goal and gifted Alfredo Morelos a chance to make it 3-2.”

Dedryck Boyata has seriously come in for some heavy criticism for his poor performance on Sunday and it is justified as he looked well of the beat. He was dispossessed prior to the opening Rangers goals and struggled throughout.

Boyata will be keen to reignite his best form quickly, but should get the opportunity as he has been a regular feature under Rodgers at centre-back. Celtic can now kick on to try complete a domestic treble as the league definitely looks a certainty. They face Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-finals in April and that will be a huge tie for both teams.
