Stuart Armstrong is fighting hard to win the race in returning to action to be able to face Zenit St Petersburg.

The midfielder underwent a hernia operation in Munich after Celtic’s winter break in Dubai and Armstrong has yet to play in a game for Celtic this year.

According to a report in The Sun, Armstrong’s recovery is running to schedule with the ex-Dundee star likely to return for Celtic for next Thursday’s Europa League clash.

Elsewhere, Celtic has yet to discover the extent of injuries to Dedryck Boyata and Kris Ajer at Kilmanock although Rodgers couldve have TWO right-back’s available by the time they welcome the Russian side at Glasgow.

Mikel Lustig is making progress from his achilles injury while Anthony Ralston played the full 90 minutes of yesterday’s 3-0 SFA Youth Cup win over St Johnstone at Lennoxtown.

Marvin Compper is also close to being back on his feet but is ineligible for the Europa League after playing for RB Leipzig in the Champions League before his move to Celtic.
