Riyad Mahrez is reportedly on the verge of undergoing a medical at Anfield on Sunday – and Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight that he is joining Jurgen Klopp‘s team so soon after the Philippe Coutinho sale was announced.
BeIN Sports claimed on Saturday night that the Reds have agreed to pay Leicester City a whooping £48.8million for the 26-year-old Algerian, and that he will sign a four-year deal.
The French news portal report that a medical has been scheduled for Sunday as the Reds waste no time in making move for a replacement after they confirmed on Saturday that the Brazilian is joining Barcelona for a fee widely reported to be £142million.
Mahrez was an integral member of the Foxes side that shocked the football world by winning the 2015-16 Premier League title and the Algerian was voted the PFA Player of the year at the end of that season.
The midfielder has been in brilliant form for Claude Puel‘s side this season, contributing directly to 15 Premier League goals with seven strikes and eight assists.
Liverpool fans and other clubs took to Twitter en masse to react to BeIN Sport’s story, with a large section of them hailing Mahrez as a potentially brilliant signing.
