INTER MILAN take on AC MILAN at the San Siro this evening in what was expected to be a sensational encounter.

With both Milan clubs struggling in recent years to come anywhere near the success Juventus have earned, the Derby della Madonnina hasn’t attracted the audience it once had.

However, with both Inter and AC Milan spending big in the summer and the Nerazzuri’s starting the Serie A season impressively with six wins from their opening seven matches, all eyes was on their crunch on Sunday evening.

Luciano Spalleti’s announced that the gate receipts for their clash with Vincenzo Montella’s side has totalled €4.8m (£4.2m) – a new record in Italian football.

The 80,018 seater stadium is at full capacity and ticket sales have surpassed the previous record of €3.7m (£3.2m) they set when taking on Juventus in October 2015.

In comparison, Premier League sides Arsenal on average bring in the same £4.2m figure from every home game at the Emirates with Real Madrid the only side in Europe that pockets more with £4.3m.

Both the San Siro sides showed an entertaining show for the fans with impressive goals from each sides. Victory for Inter against AC Milan take them to two points below league leaders Napoli.

Inter’s only absentee this evening was Marcelo Brozovic, who got injured during the international break with Croatia. AC Milan are without Turkish playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu through suspension, while Andrea Conti and Luca Antonelli both remain sidelined though injury.

Mauro Icardi converted a controversial 90th-minute penalty after Ricardo Rodriguez was penalized for holding Danilo D’Ambrosio to snatch a 3-2 victory at the San Siro.
