Manchester United are ready to present a hard negotiation before Real Madrid over David De Gea this summer and if the goalkeeper’s transfer becomes inevitable, they might insist on exchanging him for another star player like Toni Kroos.
There have been talks of the 26-year old going back to his country come season end after a proposed move to the Bernabeu fell through at the end of last summer transfer window, but the Old Trafford hierarchy is bent on taking on a much tougher challenge.
United are already out scouting for suitable replacements like Internazionale’s Samir Handanovic and AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, although it is understood De Gea is still not clear on what his next step would be. Real once again finds themselves in a situation similar to that of their alternative target Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea.
United feel they have more power in the bargain given that the Spaniard chose to stay on at Old Trafford even after the failed move in 2015 and they do not think they have to comply to Real’s wish.
The Old Trafford club are not broke and so do not need to cash in on any of their player to get funds. With that, De Gea can only leave the club if he so desires and United will agree to such move at the expense of another Real star who would come to replace De Gea.
United boss Jose Mourinho wants to reinforce his central park, and he hopes to get a player with genuine passing skill as a long term replacement for Michael Carrick so Kroos will be considered as a possible option.
It is also understood that the Portuguese tactician also have Casemiro on his wish list, but Real Madrid are not ready to part with him, due to the rarity of players in his position at the moment.
