Manchester United Transfer News
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has given the club the green light to offer United’s second-choice goalkeeper Sergio Romero a rise in pay. Romero has long been linked with a move away from Old Trafford. However, if reports according to Clubcall is anything to go by, the second-choice goalkeeper is set to be offered a pay rise by the club in attempt to fend off interest from suitors.
The former Chelsea manager insist that in January that David De Gea and the Argentine international goalkeeper are not leaving the Old Trafford when he was questioned about Romero’s future with the club having been linked with a move Boca Juniors.
Mourinho said as quoted by Skysports: “What I can say is that I expect both to stay because I think both are equally important. I cannot have a better goalkeeper than David, I cannot have a better replacement than Sergio. I cannot have a better professional than Sergio. I want them both to stay. So, if there is something true in relation to Boca, I will try to stop it because I want Sergio to stay.”
Having heard the word from the horse’s mouth, it now looks as though his prophecy are turning out to be true, with news about Romero’s contract extension circulating in the media.

It has also been reported that the 30-year-old is currently on £60,000-a-week – at the lower end of the first-team salary scale – and the 20-time English champions are now believed to be set to offer him a decent pay rise to ensure he commits his future with United and focused on providing an able back-up to David de Gea.
The Argentine has been brilliant for United whenever he’s opportune to pay for the Manchester club. He has kept a total of 7 clean sheets in 9 games that he has played for United this season and has conceded just 2 goals. A majority of the former Monaco goalie have come in UEFA Europa League, where has featured 5 times and has kept 5 clean sheets.
However, he hasn’t made a single league appearance for Jose Mourinho’s side this season and he would probably be not too concerned about that as his side are not in the title race. United have a big chance to go on and win the Europa League and Romero will for sure will play a huge part in it. The good form he has been in when on the pitch will give the Portuguese manager the full confidence to play him even in the later stages of the competition.
It is pretty much clear now, that Jose Mourinho has no intent of letting Sergio Romero leave the club. It would be really difficult for United to find a player so professional and talented like Sergio Romero.
