The transfer window is three days away from reopening in January and clubs will be busy looking for ways to bolster their squad. And obviously clubs around Europe already have their transfer lists drawn out and their target players.

The Premier League will definitely not be left out as they have arguably been the busiest league in the continent. We take a look at the major areas Liverpool need to strengthen.

Liverpool have the best attack in the league but their defence have been an exact opposite. They have scored 45 goals in the league this season and it is their attack that has been their saving grace due to their defensive frailties.

And it seems their defence has been the recurring theme that has always affected their title bid negatively, notably 2008/2009 and 2013/2014 seasons.

Loris Karius who was brought in from Germany this summer was dropped after some woeful performances, including conceding seven goals in two matches. Simon Mignolet has not fared any better.

The Belgian has had his own share of criticism and after keeping clean sheets against Middlesbrough and Everton, he face serious scrutiny for the goal he conceded against Stoke City on Tuesday.

The Reds have been linked with Man City Joe Hart who is currently on loan at Italian side Torino.

Also their defence has been leaking too much goals. Though Joel Matip was signed in July on a free transfer to bolster their defence, they have already conceded 21 goals in the league this season.
