Despite struggling in eighth position in the Premier League table and 12 points behind the league leaders Manchester City, Manchester United do have something to shout about despite not being the top team in the league. Despite the Red Devils’ one shot on target in the derby, Jose Mourinho’s men did score with a shot and once again it was Anthony Martial who was on the scoresheet.
The Frenchman goals against Man City makes it his six goals of the season who has earned a call back into France national team this week but then had to withdraw with injury, along with teammate Paul Pogba. Martial’s six goals this season means he has the best goals per minute ratio in the Premier League this term for any forward that scored five goals or more.
In the Premier League, Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge is the only player with goals in his 132 minutes of play this season that bests Martial. However, one positive thought their fans can take out from this, is that Martial, who has been their most influential attacking player, is now back in the frame.
Starting in his preferred left wing position, Martial has been a serious threat for opponents while scoring crucial goals against Chelsea, Bournemouth and Everton. However, his goals against Manchester City did not make any difference to the final result, but it did keep him atop of this chart and should keep him in United’s starting line-up for the next few games.
One thing is for sure, United are a far more dangerous attacking threat with the dynamic French winger on the pitch. His six goals this season mean he has averaged a goal every 104 minutes and every shot he has had this season has been on target. He also has taken just nine shots to score these six goals, making him the most clinical forward in the league.
