Julen Lopetegui has been sacked after a dismal performance against Barcelona at Camp Nou. The Madrid team are currently sitting ninth in the table after losing four matches and drawing two.
Let’s look at the possible candidates for the Real Madrid job.
Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger left Arsenal after being at the club for 22 years. Now the legendary manager is eager to work again. His non-confrontational nature would be a good fit for the Real Madrid dressing room. His vast footballing experience is sure to garner a huge respect from all the players in the team.
He once refused Real Madrid’s offer during his peak years because he was “too loyal to Arsenal.” Now that the Frenchman has left Arsenal, Real Madrid has the perfect opportunity to persuade him for the job. The only problem is that he is 69 years old now and he failed to get more successes for Arsenal during the later part of his career.
Antonio Conte
Antonio Conte is one of the strong candidates for the Real Madrid job. He is currently out of work but his resume is full of trophies to impress anyone. The Italian manager won the Premier League title in his first season at Chelsea. While at Juventus he won three Seria A titles during his three years.
However, it looks that he might not be that popular in the Real Madrid dressing room due to his confrontational approach and he may find it hard to deal with influential players like Sergio Ramos and Marcelo etc.
Santiago Solari
Solari is the interim manager of Real Madrid for now. However, there is no denying that the Argentine can get the job on a longer basis. Like Solari, Zinedine Zidane remained in charge of Real Madrid’s reserve team before he was called upon to take the bigger responsibility. They also both played for Real Madrid in the early 2000s. Nevertheless, Zidane was the hugely celebrated figure when he was playing for the club. While Solari was not that hero-worshipped figure at the Bernabeu.
Raul
Raul has been one of the most iconic figures at the Bernabeu. The legendary striker won 3 Champions League and 6 La Liga titles during his 16 years at Real Madrid. He also has the honor of being the second highest goalscorer of the club.
Raul is currently working with one of the club’s youth teams after earning his coaching badges this summer. One can argue though that it is a little too soon for him to take the big responsibility of managing the Real Madrid team. It is very likely that he would get that chance in the future.
