According to Goal, Manchester City could agree a £15m deal with Southampton for goalkeeper Angus Gunn. The 22-year-old has yet to make a first-team appearance for City and could be moved on this summer to get regular playing time.
Gunn joined the Sky Blues from Norwich City in 2011 and has gone on to make 55 appearances at youth level. The England stopper, who was called up for the national team without making an appearance, has been on the fringes of the senior side but isn’t likely to dethrone Ederson or Claudio Bravo under Pep Guardiola.
He spent last season on loan at Norwich as a result, racking up 51 appearances in all competitions and keeping 16 clean sheets. Southampton took notice and could agree a £15m deal with Man City for his signature. The Saints have Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster who shared goalkeeping responsibilities last season, meaning Gunn could become first-choice if he impresses Mark Hughes.
City picking up £15m for a player who hasn’t made a senior appearance is good business, although Gunn has the potential to be a regular at Premier League level. He’s just unfortunate that Ederson is his direct competition, as the Brazilian international has been outstanding since his move from Benfica.
