According to Il Mattino, Chelsea could agree a deal with Napoli for David Luiz, with new manager Carlo Ancelotti looking to renew acquaintances with the Brazilian international he briefly worked with at Stamford Bridge.
Luiz could be on his way out of the club this summer as he has 12 months left on his deal with the Blues and lost his place in the starting lineup last season. He re-joined the London outfit from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016 and has made 55 appearances in all competitions.
However, the centre-back’s second season under manager Antonio Conte didn’t go to plan. Chelsea finished outside of the Premier League top-four and Luiz lost his place to Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta. There were suggestions Luiz had a fallout with Conte too.
The former Benfica defender doesn’t appear to be in line for a new deal to keep him at the Bridge past 2019, so Chelsea will have to cash in on his signature this summer otherwise they risk losing him for nothing next year.
Napoli appointed ex-Chelsea boss Ancelotti this summer and reports suggest a bid of £26m could be enough for the Italian coach to be reunited with Luiz.
