According to Football Italia, Chelsea could agree a £17.5m deal with Juventus for Daniele Rugani. The 23-year-old has an uncertain future with the Old Lady and could be on the move this summer after Rugani’s agent Davide Torchia had a meeting with Juventus director Fabio Paratici.
Rugani joined Juventus from Empoli in 2015 and has gone on to make 67 appearances in all competitions, winning three Serie A titles and three Coppa Italias. The Italian international has been frustrated with a lack of playing time, however, making only 22 Serie A appearances from a possible 38 in the last 12 months and Chelsea could capitalise on the situation.
The Blues are looking to bolster their backline and will have to pay £17.5m to procure his signature. David Luiz could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer which could free up space for a new arrival. However, Juventus might not want to let him leave, even if he’s not commanding a starting place, as the Old Lady have an ageing backline that will soon need replacing.
Giorgio Chiellini (33), Mehdi Benatia (31) and Andrea Barzagli (37) won’t be long-term solutions for Juve so Rugani might be needed next season. Time will tell if they do sell up this summer or rebuff Chelsea’s interest.
