According to reports, Celtic are the hunt to sign goalkeeper Scott Bain on a permanent deal in the summer when the goalkeeper’s contract at Dundee expires.

The report is according to the Scottish Sun which claims that Hibernian are also hoping to sign Bain, with the shot-stopper just months away from being a free agent.

The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Celtic and made his debut in the Old Firm win against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday, making two crucial clean sheets in the latter stages of the game to deny the deadly duo of Alfredo Morelos and Jason Cummings.

The ex-Aberdeen goalkeeper has proven himself to be a solid option in goal in Scotland’s top-flight, having been impressive at Dundee and now at Celtic, registering over 100 appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

Bain had a falling out under Dee boss Neil McCann which saw him down the pecking order and resulted in him getting loaned out to Hibernian on January 1, but in a surprising moment, he was allowed to leave Easter Road to go to Celtic on a temporary basis until the summer.

Scott Bain is a very good option between the sticks and it is baffling that Dorus de Vries was played ahead of him in the last couple of months while Craig Gordon has been out injured. When de Vries is back to full fitness, it will be very interesting to see what Rodgers’ decision will be after Bain’s impressive display against Rangers or recall the experienced head of Gordon. Bain is a much better option going forward though so giving him plenty of game time between now and the summer will mean that he will be much more likely to sign for the Bhoys ahead of Hibs and Hearts.
