According to a report from The Daily Mirror towards the end of last month, Brendan Rodgers is one of the most speculated names that is on the verge to take over Arsene Wenger at the end of the season.
The British outlet reports that Wenger’s position at the club is set to be reviewed this summer ahead of the final year of his contract. And it seems fair to say that if decision are to be taken from fans, the Frenchman’s days at the club are currently numbered.
Whether the idea of Rodgers taking over the reins from him will fill them with much more optimism is unclear, but there will be some who point to the work that he did while in-charge at Liverpool and continues to do at Celtic as a reason to seriously consider him for the post.
Like all managers who move from one club to another, Rodgers – if given the chance with Arsenal – may perhaps be tempted to think about some of the players he has worked with previously when he considers potential targets. And while the Gunners should probably not expect to see Scott Brown joining their club if Rodger moves in, perhaps there a couple of Celtic stars who may become a target for Arsenal if the Premier League side make the appointment….
Kieran Tierney
If Celtic can hold onto Kieren Tierney for the duration of his current deal with the club, it would arguably by a fantastic piece of business from Celtic as he is already a star for club and country. Kieran’s capable of playing anywhere in the defence, but mainly at left-back, he has been rock for Celtic team since breaking into the team. He does not seem capable of putting in anything worse than a 7/10 performance and is someone that plenty of Scotland fans want to see given the armband following Scott Brown’s retirement.
Kristoffer Ajer
While he doesn’t seem Tierney would be moving to the Premier League, Kristoffer Ajer heading south seems to be more realistic. Ajer struggled during his first year at Celtic Park but is arguably now the club’s best-performing centre-back. Like Tierney, Ajer is young enough to get significantly better, and provides plenty of pace and versatility. If the Norway under-17 international can improve at the rate that he has done over the past couple of months, there will surely soon be a queue of Premier League sides eyeing a move.
