Rangers have discussed the possibility of making a shock late bid for long-time Celtic target Jack Hendry, according to a report.

According to Daily Record live transfer blog earlier today on their website, they claim from journalist Keith Jackson that the 22-year-old’s “name has cropped up in the Rangers boardroom.”

The report adds that if it came down to a financial battle between the two sides then Celtic would win the in the race to sign Hendry, as they would be able to offer the player more money than Rangers.

Hendry has been a long-time target for the Scottish champions boss Brendan Rodgers, and they’ve already had a bid for the player rejected, a bid described by Dundee boss Neil McCann as “very low.”

A move to Rangers would come as a huge shock to all involved considering Celtic’s long-standing interest but it appears that Rangers could end up going going head-to-head with the Old Firm rivals.

It would be a huge shock if Rangers hijack Celtic’s move for Hendry right under their nose. Rodgers has been trying to sign him since the beginning of the transfer window, and it would be a big blow to him and Celtic he rejected them for their rivals. It still seems likelier that Hendry will end up at Celtic, but it would be a huge coup for Rangers and once again show that they mean business in the Scottish Premiership going forward. The Light Blues’ transfer business so far has been very successful, if they were to pull this transfer off it would top the lot and be a huge boost for the club’s fans.
