With reports linking Chelsea teen star Charly Musonda with a loan move to Celtic, this is one loan move the Hoops needs to get excited about. The Belgian would thrive in Glasgow.

As the January transfer deadline approaches, the rumours linking him to Celtic are coming thick and fast. The new reports claim that Musonda could be on his way to Parkhead as he looks for regular football in the second half of this season.

And so far, Celtic and La Liga side Laganes are the only reported sides to be interested in a move for him. According to the Daily Mail, Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers is interested in adding the Belgian to his ranks.

The Scottish champions were said to be closing in on an 18-month loan deal for Blues’ playmaker on Friday. Celtic hope to have the 21-year-old attacking midfielder in Glasgow early next week.

Musonda has been left frustrated with developments so far this season. Despite poor performances from his teammates, Antonio Conte has failed to give him appropriate opportunities in the first team.

When Musonda remained at Chelsea in the summer, his hope was that he would have a significant role in the senior team fold. That dream has not materialised as he has made only three Premier League appearances, all coming from the bench this season.

At his age, he needs a guaranteed regular football. Musonda has the potential to become a leading continental talent, but sitting and coming in from the bench put his future at further risks.

At Celtic, there are chances Musonda will thrive. Rodgers has a fantastic record when it comes to bringing up coming stars. Manchester City has trusted the Northern Irishman with Patrick Roberts, while Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele are proofs Musonda would flourish at Parkhead.

The Scottish top flight may not be of a high standard – according to some – but there is no denying how impressive Celtic have been performing in recent years. The Bhoys playing style and the evident intra-squad competitiveness will provide the Belgium star with an ideal environment to reignite his career.

Chelsea have sent a number of player out on loan. Most of these players are relatively aimless and unfortunate to their potential. However, Musonda’s a rare occasion where the Stamford Bridge outfits should be doing everything they can to seal this move.

The fact that the playmaker does not have a starting role under the Italian boss in-charge is disappointing. The move to Celtic, however, would be the best thing since slice bread.
