Celtic are in the hunt for the signature of prolific striker Richmond from Serbian top-flight club Red Star Belgrade, according to the Mail.
The news outlet claims that the Hoops have “run the role” over the 24-year-old and they are not the only side to be monitoring the centre-forward over a possible January move.
Premier League duo Swansea and Crystal Palace are also reported side showing interest in him, while English champions Chelsea are sending scouts to watch him action next week against Arsenal in the Europa League.
Boakey has been in sensational form this season for the Serbian side scoring 10 goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.
The Ghana international has been tearing defence apart in Europe and has scored eight goals in 10 European League clashes this season, including the qualifiers.
What’s good in this for Celtic?
A potential Celtic switch for Boakye in January doesn’t quite add up and would be a strong decision by the Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers.
The Scottish side already have a potent striker force with Leigh Griffiths, Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard competing for a position in the side.
Boakye is a prolific scorer and his 25-goal return in just 35 appearances for the Red Star is impressive. He has also scored freely in the Italian league for teams like Sassualo, Genoa and Atalanta.
However, Boakye should not be a priority for the Bhoys in January and they should focus on strengthening other areas of the pitch when the transfer window re-opens.
How likely is this going to happen?
Celtic completing a move for Richmond Boakye seems highly unlikely at this moment in time as he only completed a permanent move to Red Star in the summer.
The forward is enjoying life at the Serbian club and in great form of his life right now, with his performances in Europe particularly impressive.
Brendan Rodgers’ side are one of several teams that are monitoring his situation and if he continues his good form, the Scottish giants would likely be blown out of the water by the financial power of Premier League.
