Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have been hit with a major setback, following latest news that striker Alvaro Morata could be out of action for up to six weeks as a result of the hamstring injury that forced him off the pitch against Manchester City on Saturday, according to the Mirror.
The former Real Madrid striker hit the ground at Chelsea, netting six goals in his first six Premier League appearances for the Blues after his summer switch from Real Madrid. However, Morata pulled up during Chelsea v Man City Saturday’s clash at the Stamford Bridge, eventually subbing himself off.
It was initially thought the Spaniard would be able to return to action after the international break, but the Spanish Football Federation have confirmed that he had suffered a grade two hamstring tear that will likely keep him out of action for all of October plus two weeks into November.
Chelsea missed out on signing Fernando Llorente while the transfer window was still open and the Blues squad is now short on attacking options, with Belgium international Michy Batshuayi the only other known striker in their ranks.
Eden Hazard, who started the last two matches up front with Morata, could be tasked with spearheading the attack, however, while Morata’s countryman Pedro has shown that he can do a job there as well.
The Chelsea camp will be very disappointed by the unfortunate turn of events, though, but their medical team will certainly work round the clock to get the striker back to optimal fitness at the soonest.
Chelsea could be without Alvaro Morata for their next 11 games, including six games that could define their season in the Premier League and Champions League. The games Morata will be missing are shown in the picture below.
