Former England international John Barnes believes Tottenham will fail in another bid to hold aloft the Premier League trophy come May 2018.
Spurs have struggle in the first three Premier League matches of the season, with their Wembley Stadium hoodoo seemingly continuing after a loss to the Blues and a disappointing draw against Burnley.
Speaking to HITC, Barnes claimed the north London outfit do not have enough about them to beat their rivals and finally secure top-flight glory after going close under Mauricio Pochettino in the last two seasons.
Barnes, 53, claims playing their hole games at Wembley will work against them this season, but believes Manchester City and Manchester United will finish above Spurs.
“There is no question of them winning the title because once again playing at Wembley is going to be detrimental for them in terms of winning all of their home games as we have seen already.
“They have got a good squad, they have got a strong squad, but once again for me, Manchester City and Manchester United are the favourites alongside probably Chelsea, although Tottenham will once again fight for a top-four spot.”
Tottenham were busy on Thursday’s deadline day, confirming deals for Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain and target man Fernando Llorente from Swansea City.
The duo joins Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth and Paulo Gazzaniga in signing for Tottenham, as they look to help guide the club to domestic glory.
Base on my perspective, Tottenham have every chance of Premier League glory after finally adding proper back-up to first-choice striker Harry Kane, in Spain international Fernando Llorente. Vincent Janssen was in top form for Spurs last season, as he found the back of the net just two times in the Premier League.
However, the only issue preventing them is winning a match at Wembley. Spurs record at the home of English football is poor, which was highlighted in their poor European form last season. Get over that barrier, and Spurs will win the league.
