After Barcelona announced the signing of Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for £135.5 million, one couldn’t blame Liverpool fans for feeling a little more confident of holding onto Philippe Coutinho.
The La Liga giants have been linked with the Brazilian throughout this summer and it was thought they wanted to sign him to replace Neymar – who joined Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record – £197 million – move earlier this month.
However, it seems Dembele’s arrival to Nou Camp will have no impact on the club pursuit of Coutinho.
And the Liverpool midfielder is certainly hoping that’s the case, according to Sky Sports.
Report claimed that Coutinho “is hoping Barcelona do not give up on him after they signed Ousmane Dembele.”
Sky Sports also claim that the 25-year-old’s mood is “very low at the moment” as Liverpool continue to reject all Barca’s bid for him.
While Jurgen Klopp is remaining extremely reluctant, the German boss may be forced to sell in the La Liga giants come back with another offer. After all, keeping an unhappy player at the club probably isn’t the smartest idea.
And, according to Spanish Publication Sport, Coutinho – who scored 12 goals in 43 appearances for the Red across all competition last season – won’t be a Liverpool player for too much longer.
On the front page of their Saturday newspaper, it shows Barcelona will make a final take or leave it offer of €150 million for Coutinho, believing that he could complete a deal by Tuesday.
In another report on Friday, the Spanish outlet say that there was a meeting between the player’s agent and the Reds as they attempt to force through a move.
They claim that it will be Coutinho’s final attempt to convince his current side to let him complete his dream move and join the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and new signing Dembele at the Camp Nou.
Whether Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will finally give in accept the Catalan’s €150 million for their star man remains to be seen. We are just three days left to see how the transfer saga ends.
