Inter have announced that they have axed manager Stefano Pioli with just three fixtures to go before the end of the season.

Pioli was came in as the head coach at the start of November, taking over from Frank de Boer following the club’s poor start to the season.

The 51-year old’s competence as a manager was evident immediately he took over as he led the team to win nine consecutive games across all competition during the festive period.

Inter invested big in the summer and were expected to go all the way to the top of the top of the league at the start of the season, but their performance have declined a great deal since their shocking 7-1 victory over Atalanta at the beginning of March.

The Serie A giants are now on a loosing streak, winless in seven matches and loosing five of the seven, leaving the club in a tight fit to qualify for the next season Europa League.

Inter currently sit in the seventh position and are nine points behind the top five with three more games to go, but they can still pull off the Europa League qualification next season if they can overcome a three point deficit and overtake AC Milan, who are currently in the sixth position.

This is due to the fact that both Lazio and Juventus, who would clash against one another in the Coppa Italia final at the start of June, are already guaranteed European football next season, which means the remaining European space will be handed to the sixth.

However, the man chosen to succeed Pioli will have to pick Inter Milan up from their downward slope. Only Pescara are on a current longer loosing streak in Serie A than Inter at the moment.
