After being humiliated at the hands of Manchester United, Chelsea gave rise to Tottenham’s EPL title hopes once again.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side thrashed Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday reducing the point gap between them and the league leaders to four points and it remained so all through the weekend as Chelsea lost to the Red Devils.
With six more games to go and 18 points up for grabs, Football weeks brings you analysis of both team’s remaining fixtures.
Chelsea
Antonio Conte’s side commences their six games run in with a home game with Southampton. In the first leg, the Blues emerged the winner with a 2-0 win and they will be hoping for repeated performance against the mid-table club.
Then Chelsea take a trip down to Goodison Park in what can be considered the toughest of their remaining fixture. The Blues have triumphed 5-0 over Everton earlier this season, but Ronald Koeman’s side has picked up more point at home in recent games which makes this a hard nut to crack.
After that, the Blues play host to Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge before travelling to the Hawthorns to challenge Tony Pulis’ West Brom. Both fixtures will be an opportunity for Conte’s team to bag more points as they have previously won them 1-0.
Hosting Middlesbrough should be a piece of cake. However, contending with West Brom could be a bit tricky as Tony Pulis will set up a big challenge for Chelsea. Clashing with the Baggies will not be so easy.
Chelsea end their season with home ties with Watford and Sunderland
The Blues have already defeated both teams this season and they will be confident of ending the season with victories over both teams.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham are the only team putting pressure on Chelsea, while the two Manchester clubs, Everton, Liverpool and Arsenal are competing for the remaining two Champions League spots. With just four points behind the league leaders, Spurs will be hoping the Blues have a repeat of what happened on Sunday, while also putting in mind that they have win all six of their remaining fixtures.
After facing the Blues in FA Cup Semi-final, Spurs resumes their title race taking a trip to Selhurst Park. Pochettino’s men face Crystal Palace having kept a clean sheet against them earlier in the season. However, Sam Allardyce’s men should not be looked down on as they have recently trumped on Arsenal and Chelsea.
Spurs then play host to Arsenal at White Hart Lane. Spurs are leading their North London rivals for the first time in many years and Arsenal’s recent inconsistency could give them an edge over them.
Spurs 35th game of the season is a London Derby with West Ham and Tottenham will be hoping to bag three points before Manchester United comes visiting. The Clash with United will be a tough one as Jose Mourinho’s side have excelled more in their away from home and with a Champions League spot at stake, United will be prepped to claim all points from the game.
Tottenham end their campaign travelling to the King Power and the KC Stadium to clash against two sides they have already defeated this season. With Spurs likely to come off the ties with Leicester and Hull City with six points, the title winner will be revealed on the final day.
