It’s now official that Bayern Munich star Mats Hummels will miss his side UEFA Champions League match against Real Madrid and more after suffering a serious ankle injury.
The defender himself announced the news on his official Twitter handle, with FC Bayern elaborating more on the nature of the injury. It reads below:

Hummels returned to Bayern during the summer after a lengthy stint with Borussia Dortmund and immediately slotted in to the starting XI.
The Germany international proved a perfect fit for the Bundesliga champions, and his ability with the ball has been crucial in starting attacks for the Bavarians. Hummels was left on the bench for the match against his former side Borussia Dortmund during the weekend, however, with league leaders manager Carlo Ancelotti seemingly saving him for the clash with Real.
Hummels injury is a major blow, as he is by far Bayern Munich’s best option on the left side of the central defensive duo. Zinedine Zidane will also face their counterpart with yet more defensive worries, as Raphael Varane has been out of the squad for some time now and Pepe suffered broken ribs in the draw with arch-rivals Atletico Madrid, according to Goal.
Bayern on the other hand will likely pair Jerome Boateng with Javi Martinez in defence when they take on the Los Blancos.
