If vast reports making the rounds are anything to go by, then West Ham United are would be making an offer for Rafael Benitez to join them at the Olympic Stadium should the current manager Slaven Bilic axed at the end of the summer. The Hammers began the season on a downward spiral and now sits at the 12th position on the Premier League table. Their last five games have ended on a bad note for them. The Sun reported earlier in the week that Bilic would be dismissed if he fails to lead them to a top-ten finish.
British tabloids, Daily Mirror has also reported that West Ham are hoping to convince Benitez, who is on a mission to restore Newcastle United back to the Premier League, to take over the reins from Bilic. The Spanish coach almost made the London Stadium his home back in 2015 before he was snatched by Real Madrid.
Benitez has revived the magpies’ hope of playing in the Premier League as he has led them to the top of the Championship. Rafa has assured Newcastle he is going nowhere but the club also need to make sure he stays true to his word. Here we bring you three reasons why Newcastle should make sure he keeps his promise:
Ability to make players give their best
Dwight Gayle who could not find his feet in Crystal Palace is now having a good time in the Championship being one of the leading goal-scorers. Jamaal Lascelles, who was known for his inefficiency, now is one of the best defender in English football. This goes to show Benitez’s ability to coerce players into action.
History
Most critic would not look Benitez’s way when naming top-class managers, but his past achievement speaks volume. He’s had experience coaching some of the best team across all top leagues since the beginning of his coaching career. Top clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, Valencia, Inter Milan, Napoli and Real Madrid have first-hand experience of his managerial skills and this could attest to his capabilities.
Having won 12 major trophies, including a UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, he’s achieved much more than most of the acclaimed managers. The Magpies should go the extra mile to make him stay at the club as he would be of great influence to them.
Newcastle’s restoration
Benitez joined the Magpies when they were struggling to save face. He came in too late to help the club avoid relegation but ever since their relegation, the Spaniard has fought tooth and nail to restore their lost glory and looks all ready for a Premier League comeback. It is quite clear that without his guidance, Newcastle will still be in a really bad shape.
Rafa has kept his team thirsty for action and they might be taking home the EFL Championship silverware at the end of the season. The fact that he single managed them from the bottom in just one season makes him worth keeping and the Newcastle owners should ensure he continues his time at the club.
