Why Mauricio Pochettino Should Close His Eyes And Complete This Swap Deal

According to news reports coming from Italy, Corriere dello Sport, Inter Milan are ready to allow midfielder Marcelo Brozovic join Tottenham Hotspur in a swap deal for Spurs winger Erik Lamela.
The White Hart Lane outfits are reportedly looking to bring in new more bloods to their midfield and had marked Brozovic their primary target for the summer transfer window. And now the Serie A giants are considering a cash-plus-player deal involving the Argentine, who last kicked a ball for the Spurs in October last year in their 2-1 EFL Cup loss against Liverpool and has been ruled out with an injury ever since.
Lamela has caused speculations of a move away with Tottenham since quite some time now, more so when he was spotted in Rome, where he had most of his football with AS Roma. Despite the Lilywhites stating that he has been back in training for quite some time now, his lack of football has raised concerns among a few sections of the supporters.
At his best, he is the perfect player for Mauricio Pochettino side considering their style of play. Lamela is someone who has the ability to run at defenders at serious pace and can beat his man and cut inside or stretch the defence wide. This is something Tottenham have been lacking since he has been out of the squad injured.
However, since moving to White Hart Lane, he hasn’t been able to find his best form. Having struggled to hit the peak and with a good part of six months of injury, there are chances Tottenham might consider shipping him out. Prior to when he got injured, he had played fourteen Premier League games, bagging twice and registering seven assists.
Marcelo Brozovic, on the other has been impressive in performance at Inter with each passing year and has earned himself reputation as one of the most talented defensive midfielders in the game currently. Being scouted by rivals Manchester United as well, the Croatian international could provide opportunity in the middle of part for Tottenham along with the likes of Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama.
Brozovic has played 22 games for Inter this season and has managed to score five goals, along with setting up four goals for his teammates. The Croatian is a quality player, who can be utilize anywhere in the central midfield, be it in an attacking role or in a withdrawn role, he will bring to Tottenham some serious versatility and quality to the midfield. And with Pochettino’s side looking good for another season in the Champions League, they could do with someone of his class and stature in their playing XI without a question.
The lone issue for Tottenham in signing Brozovic would be that it could see their game time given to young Harry Winks cut short. However, with number of big games coming their way, this should be something the Spurs should put into consideration.
On the other hand, there is Lamela, who, whenever at his best can be overwhelming, but he has struggled to take off in London and post this lengthy injury layoff, it will even prove more difficult for him to get going. On the other hand, there is Brozovic who is playing some of the best football in Italy and can make a great impact if he comes in. Considering all the factors in play, it would be great to see prudent Spurs give the go-ahead to a swap deal.
