Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic may not consider extending his stay at Old Trafford should Jose Mourinho’s side fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
As per reports in the media, Ibrahimovic is stalling over signing an extension at Old Trafford as their chances of featuring in the Europe’s elite club competition next season is not guaranteed.
The former Inter Milan and Barcelona forward moved to Man United last summer with the hope that his side absence from Europe was temporary, but with few weeks to the end of the season and United are still in the sixth position, he is doubting his team’s chances of breaking into the top four.
Jose Mourinho’s side has been able to narrow the gap between them and the fourth place to just two points and four points off the second position but with the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal, and Liverpool ahead of them, finishing in the top four might be difficult.
However, the other alternative they have is to win the Europa League- Europe’s secondary competition. They are currently in the round of 16 where they will face Russian club FC Rostov in a two-legged fixture and have been considered favourites to win the trophy.
The Swedish superstar will turn 36 this year and next season is believed to be the last of his illustrious career. His current contract end this season and Mourinho is hoping he will stay beyond the current season.
The 35-year-old has disappointed many by wasting no time in adapting to life in the Premier League as he has scored 24 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions. United faithful will be hoping their star man stays on.
