Arsenal have begun to lose their grip on Premier League as they have only managed to gain only four more points from their last five Premier League matches and are now 12 points behind League leaders Chelsea.
This has left Arsene Wenger disappointed with his team performance and hopes they would improve. The manager still must decide what the fate of his players would be, while some of his players have signed new contract, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are yet to recommit to the club.
Ozil, who is now in the final 18 months of his contract, has put little effort in previous games. His reluctance to sign a new contract stems from the uncertainty surrounding Wenger‘s future at the club. Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has approached the former La Liga player for a move to the Camp Nou at the end of the season.
Ozil, a quick, creative and technical player, the 28-year-old excels in an advanced playmaking role, as a winger on either flank, or as an attacking midfielder through the centre of the pitch but he lacks consistency and a good performance can only be expected from him when playing small teams. Nevertheless, leaving the Emirates would be a great loss to Arsenal as he is one of the best midfielder in Premier League.
The Gunners would get back most of what they spent in acquiring the German playmaker from Real Madrid years back should they decide to let him go but it would be difficult to find the perfect replacement for him.
Ozil’s presence in the club is in no way hindering the career of a youngster and though he is sometimes underactive, selling him would be a wrong move for Wenger as he would be needed to play regularly and win consistently. He would be tempted to move to Barcelona if he does not sign a new deal in the next four month.
It is left for Wenger to decide what his fate would be.
