As the defending champion, last season, Chelsea had to forget about retaining the title they had won the previous season and focused on battling for survival in the Premier League which also led to the sack of Jose Mourinho in December 2015 and the Blues eventually finished in the 10th position.

Fast forward to this season, after the September setback which was preceded by them winning their matches in August, Chelsea have bounced back to life and their records so far showed they are good for the title.

The change came at Hull City in October and the London club went on 13-match winning streak, conceding in just three matches before the defeat at Tottenham. They have since gone back to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Leicester City and are on now leading the pack with seven points.

The Blues resurgence has seen them having a firm grip of the summit position in the league standing. Absence of injuries and lack of European competition have also played a crucial in Antonio Conte’s led club foray to that top.

One defeat in 15 matches isn’t a bad record after all and from that perspective it can be said that the title is Chelsea’s to lose. None of their title rivals have demonstrated their type of consistency, not even Liverpool or Man City who were serious contenders.

City have been hit the worst and are 10 points off the top spot – in the fifth place- following their 0-4 loss to Everton. Both Arsenal and Man United are more focused now on securing Champions League spots than chasing the title while Liverpool and Tottenham who are both locked on the same points have been consistency enough to challenge the Blues on all fronts.

Conte has been able to come up with the tactic that has been productive for months now with his player firing on all cylinders and getting results. Their solid defence, something lacking in Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City, is almost the key to them winning the title.

They could get the three points if they could win against West Brom, Sunderland and Crystal Palace only by a lone goal consecutively in each match. It will be somehow difficult to see them lose the title later on.
