Jose Mourinho has made known that a clear-out is expected at Old Trafford as he plans to rebuild the team. More than a whole team have bought and sold since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer of 2013 and this tread seems not o be ending soon.
This winter transfer window has seen the departure of Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton. The English man was signed from Southampton in 2015 by former boss Louis Van Gaal but he failed to convince Mourinho leading to his from the club.
In the same vein, Memphis Depay is also on his out of Manchester United after failing to live up to expectations since his arrival from Dutch League PSV. The 22-year-old could not replicate the same form that made United cough out £31 million to sign him.
Jose Mourinho obviously has not been impressed by the player who was the Dutch Eredivisie’s top scorer in 2014-15 and was brought to Old Trafford under former manager Louis van Gaal. His stay at the club has been in disappointments, scoring just seven goals in 53 appearances. He has made only eight appearances this season and only one start.
Lyon are in talks with United over a potential purchase of the forward and £15 million fee is reportedly said to have been agreed on. And once again the sale is coming at a loss for United.
That being said, there are other players that may still follow the foot step of Depay and Schneiderlin. Bastian Schweinsteiger –even though he is the fan’s favourite- he has featured just once for United this season and may exit the club. Ashley Young has also not been a regular under Mourinho and a good offer may tempt the 31-year-old to try his luck somewhere else.
