As pace setters in the league, Liverpool boast of 30 goals and 26 points from 11 games and will be looking to extend that when they take on the Saints. But they might be without two of the quartet that has been terrorizing defence in the league.
Philippe Coutinho is a doubt for the match following news that he was spotted at Liverpool’s Spire Hospital yesterday, suggesting that he may have been injured while playing for Brazil during the international break.
The 24-year-old featured for the Selecao against Argentina and Peru. The former Inter Milan prodigy will undergo scans to ascertain the extent of the injury.
Also Adam Lallana may not be available to face his old club. The midfielder completed England’s 3-0 win over Scotland but was withdrawn after 27 minutes in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Spain after picking up a groin injury.
The pair has been instrumental to the Red Devils high-flying attack this season forming a formidable partnership with Firmino and Saido Mane. Klopp will be hoping the two win the fitness race to be available for the match as he aims to maintain their nine-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Coutinho has scored in three of his previous four visits to the Saints. He has scored twice and registered three assists in his last three league games. His absence will create a loophole in their attack which has scored 12 goals in their last three games
However, Klopp can call upon Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge. Origi scored a hat-trick and Sturridge also scored twice at St Mary in Liverpool’s 6-1 win in the League Cup.
