Former Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins has claimed that there is a club that would still need the services of John Terry in the Premier League if he has become a forgotten figure at Stamford Bridge.
The defender has failed to cement a place in Antonio Contels starting XI and could make a shock move to Old Trafford this his condition doesn’t improve at Chelsea. And the return of David Liuz who has been impressive since his arrival this summer means Terry should be ready to spend more time on the bench than he has ever experienced in his entire career at the club.
Liuz has been efficient in the 3-4- formation introduced by Conte and that means no starting place for the club skipper.
There were rumuors of Terry’s departure last season but were quashed after he signed a new one year contract extension. He has been limited to few appearances this season which means a move away from looks inevitable.
He already has offers from Chinese Super League clubs but Wilkins believes the former England skipper will prefer to stay in the Premier League. He claimed the 35-year-old who has spent his entire career at Hclesea could re-unite with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
He is one of the legends of the club and a move to Old Trafford looks bleak. But this is football and especially when it comes to Mourinho, he rarely miss out on any player he wants but it might be a different ball game on this. Chelsea have had the likes of Frank Lampard and Petr Cech who has both spent more than a decade at Stamford Bridge departed for Man City and Arsenal respectively.
While it may be easy for some players, it is an herculean task for some to join a rival club in the same league, they’d prefer moving abroad. If Terry wishes to remain in England, he has no other choice than to move to one of Chelsea’s rival and Man United looks like the club he could join.
Terry and Mourinho enjoyed a good relationship together at Stamford Bridge and the former Inter Milan coach could capitalize on that to lure him to Old Trafford. United defence is in disarray at the moment and Terry doesn’t seem to be the answer to that in the long run. He may bring the experience but staying beyond a season is probably out of it.
