Winning the Champions League remains the dream of any club and coaches around Europe. The enthusiasm that always accompanies it at the start of any season cannot be over emphasized. It the biggest stage where big teams in each country come together to test prowess and contest for the title.
So far this season four matches have been played already and it remains two games to round up the group stages. And this season has witnessed the entrance of the least expected club from England Leicester City into the elite competition following their Premier League triumph the previous season in one of the biggest upset in football.
Here is an analysis of how they stand in their group and their chances of progressing beyond the group.
Leicester City
The Foxes pulled a surprise when they won the league and qualify for the Champions League. Though they have not been able to replicate the same performance this season, they are sitting top of their group G table. Winning three and drawn one of their four matches so far. Their next matches are against at home to Club Brugge and away at Porto. They only need one win and one draw to qualify for the knock-out stages
Arsenal
The London club already had the same points they had after the group stage last season and finished behind Bayern Munich. Topping their group A with 10 points, they PSG on their neck with same points. They came from two goals down against Ludo Razg to win 3-2. Next matches are against PSG to home and away at Basel. Winning or losing those matches won’t affect the Gunners qualification but it is good finish top of the table. Both Ludo Razgd and Basel have a point each.
Tottenham
The Lily Whites are the only English appeared to be in a situation. Third on the group E table with four points; two behind Bayern Leverkusen and four behind leader Monaco. Next matches are away Monaco and at home to CSKA. It is paramount they win both matches to stand any chance of qualifying and hope either Monaco or Leverkusen drop point.
Manchester City
Basking in the euphoria of their famous 3-1 win over Spanish giant Barcelona, a repeat of that performance in their remaining group matches could see them qualifying from group C. Next matches away at Borussia Monchengladbach and at home to Celtic. Second on the table with seven points behind leader Barcelona who has nine points. They need to win at least one and draw to progress.
All except Tottenham stand a chance of progressing. The white Hart Lane outfits qualification from the group depends on outcome of other results in their group.
