Arguably, one cannot deny that Arsenal’s and German international Mesut Ozil is in the best form of his life with the Gunners right now.
He has been sensational for the North London side in recent weeks as they still amongst the leading pack in the Premier League. His goal against Bulgarian side which saw Arsenal won 3-2 over Ludogorets guaranteed them qualifying for the last-16 of the Champions League.
Ozil have bagged seven goals in all competition for the Gunners in all competitions this season – just a goal short of his tally last season with four away from his best career return – which dates back to his wonder Werder Bremen days during the 2009/10 season.
However, there is one massive about the playmaker with his side right now with the former Real Madrid star having less than two years on his current deal at the Emirates.
Nevertheless, as claimed one of British tabloid the Mirror, those have now vanished. That’s pretty because they’re reporting the German is ready to commit his long-term future with Arsenal.
Arsenal’s hierarchy are growing ever confident that Ozil will commit his future with Arsenal by putting pen to paper on a new 160,000-per-week five-year deal.
Talks over the deal are at an advancing stage at moment and, with the playmaker left out of his country side squad for the upcoming international break, a source from the club claimed on Saturday night that they’re “getting closer.”
He made the headlines this week after his stunning late goal helped his side to a 3-2 comeback victory over their clash with Bulgarian side Ludogorets in the Champions League to ensure their progression into the next round.
Just ahead of the Sunday’s north London derby clash, the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger urged the 28-year-old playmaker to commit his long-term future to the club, and he could be a legend like Dennis Bergkamp.
He said, “There are similarities with Bergkamp. I think he can become a legend – if he commits,”
“Dennis Bergkamp committed for a long period, played until he was 38.
“I wish we have ten more years of Ozil. That depends. To become a legend at the club you need to stay for a long time. If you stay two years, you would not be a legend.”
“We work on it (the contract), we work on it.”
There have been tentatively rumours about Ozil returning to the Bernabeu next summer but, with Real Madrid still under transfer ban which lasts for the next two window, the hope of joining the Los Blancos team isn’t possible in the near future.
It’s no surprise to see the Gunners taking this moment to tempt Ozil to remain at the Emirates. Arsenal are in fine form and the German clearly, is enjoying his football with the club.
The North London derby against Spurs in the Premier League ended on a 1-1 draw at the Emirates on Sunday. Arsenal were lucky to have Kevin Wimmer scores in his own net in the 42’ minute of the game.
However, Harry Kane equalizes the goal from the penalty spot in the 51’ of the game after Laurent Koscielny fouled Moussa Dembele in the box.
After that, Arsenal will have two whole weeks to work on Ozil’s new contract and it looks as though the German World-Cup winner would be willing to sign Arsenal’s new deal.
