Chelsea has been showing a hugely unpredictable trend of boom and bust for the past four seasons. They won the title with Mourinho in the 2014-15 season but finished at 10th the next year after suffering 12 losses. With Antonio Conte in the 2016-17 season, they got the title again by amassing an incredible 93 points. Although the next season didn’t bode well for the Blues as they finished 5th in the league ending the managerial career of Conte at Chelsea.
Now with Maurizio Sarri in charge, the Blues are doing very well so far. They are currently placed 3rd at the table with the difference of 2 points with the league leaders ( Manchester City and Liverpool ) after winning five matches and suffering two draws.
There is no doubt that Liverpool and Manchester City are the current favorites for the Premier League title this season. However, Sarri’s Chelsea is just as capable to challenge Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola Guardiola for the title this season.
Chelsea main forward Eden Hazard is currently in top form and best form of life and has been tearing defences apart with him being the leading scorer in Premier League with six goals. Liverpool got knocked out of the Carabao Cup courtesy of Hazard’s second goal in the last minutes of the game at Anfield. The Belgian also provided the lone goal against Liverpool in the last game at Stamford Bridge.
And besides Hazard, Chelsea boast of many other experienced players in the team that would be of help to the team in their aim to challenge for the Premier League title. The same thing can’t be said about Liverpool who, besides having a great squad, have not won many titles. While Manchester City, on the other hand, have just won the previous Premier League title as well as the Carabao Cup, so experience in beating all challenges could serve them well for this season.
With Liverpool and Manchester City both currently competing in the Champions League, their keen concentration would always be in the Premier League and while both sides can field their fringes players for Champions League, Chelsea giving break to their important players at Europa League would be a major boost for the Blues.
Additionally, the arrival of Jorginho has been a great boost for Chelsea who together with N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic has made their midfield as strong as any in the league. Even their new goal-keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is proving to be a good replacement for Thibaut Courtois between the sticks. The only concern for Chelsea is the misfiring of both Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata with only Hazard coming up with the goals so far.
For the league title, Manchester City and Liverpool are the current favorites, still, Chelsea can’t be ruled out. In fact, Maurizio Sarri’s side could be a great competitor for the Premier League title this season.
