As reported by the Daily Mirror, Celtic have reportedly be considering move to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson.

The British tabloid claimed on their blog on Sunday that Premier League club Leicester City are also interested in signing the 28-year-old centre-back, who has handed West Brom transfer request in order to force his move from the Hawthorns this away.

The defender has registered more than 150 Premier League appearances since he joined the Championship club from Rochdale in 2010.

Stats as collated by Spotrac claimed the centre-back is earning around £40,000-a-week on his current deal with the Black Country club.

The centre-back was one of the Baggies’ best players last season when they got relegated from the Premier League last season and showed last season why he is very much an under-rated defender in the Premier League.

Despite his main role being centre-back, Dawson can be utilise at the right-back, and would be a huge upgrade on the likes of Mikael Lustig, Jozo Simunovic and even Dedryck Boyata, who had poor performances with Celtic in the 2017/18 season.

It’s also added that Celtic have with the PL club have considered making a move for Dawson, who has two years left to run on his current deal with West Brom and is believed to be available for around £20m, as reported by Sky Sports.

Celtic needs to strengthen their central defensive options if they are to win their eighth successive league title and compete in the Champions League, and Dawson would prove to be an inspired addition, although Brendan Rodgers will want to pay a lot less than £20m for his services.

Although, the defender is already on bigger wages than what Celtic can offer him but he seems intent on returning back to top flight rather than plying his trade in the Championship with West Brom.

The Hoops have already broken their transfer record this summer by spending £9million on Odsonne Edouard, but remains to be seen whether they would spend up to £20million to sign Dawson.
