According to Caden Ser and Il Messaggero, Chelsea could pay £35m + Alvaro Morata to agree a deal with Inter Milan for striker Mauro Icardi. The Blues could let the Spanish international leave this summer as he greatly struggled for form in his debut season. Icardi might be the one to replace him.

Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid last summer and scored 11 goals in 31 Premier League games. The 25-year-old started brightly at Stamford Bridge, netting nine goals in his 15 outings, but he scored only three league goals since November 2017 and lost his place to Olivier Giroud in the new year.

As a result, Morata could be moved on in the coming weeks, so long as there’s a suitor actively seeking his services. Inter Milan could be that side if they do lose Icardi, as the Serie A outfit will want a replacement who knows where the back of the net is.

The Spanish international, who was left out of his country’s World Cup squad, struggled in England but was more prolific in Italy, scoring and creating 46 goals in 93 games for Juventus, so he could yet resurrect his career abroad. Chelsea will reportedly be open to the sale if it means they sign Inter’s 107-goal legend.
