According to Di Marzio, Arsenal could agree a £22m deal with Sampdoria for midfielder Dennis Praet, with the 24-year-old ‘in talks’ with the Gunners.

Praet’s agent is reported to have held discussions over an exit from the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, but Arsenal have competition from Juventus, AS Roma and Inter Milan for his signature.

The Belgian international joined Sampdoria from RSC Anderlecht in 2016 and has gone on to make over 180 appearances for the Serie A side in all competitions, scoring and creating an impressive 66 goals.

Praet has been a regular in the engine room this season as his Sampdoria side finished ninth in the division.

Arsenal could be in desperate need of a new midfield recruit, with the futures Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey uncertain this summer.

The British duo are yet to agree contract extensions which could force the Gunners to shop for a replacement. Wilshere could leave on a free in a matter of weeks, while Ramsey still has a year remaining on his deal.

Praet could be Arsenal’s solution for an affordable £22m. He didn’t make the Belgium squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia but has been in fine form all season regardless.
