According to the Express, Celtic will offer midfielder Ryan Christie a contract extension to keep him at Parkhead until 2020. The 23-year-old joined Aberdeen on loan in January 2017 and has impressed enough to earn a cap for Scotland which in turn has convinced Celtic to extend his deal for 12 months.
His current deal expires in less than 18 months and manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping he can put himself into first-team contention next season when he returns from Aberdeen. The midfielder joined the Bhoys from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2015 and has made just 13 appearances since.
Christie has spent more time out on loan at other clubs, but he could be in line for the Celtic first-team in 2018/19. He’s scored and created seven goals in 25 games in the Scottish Premiership, helping the Dons go third in the table, two points adrift of second-placed Rangers.
Celtic are acting fast with the Express saying a number of sides are keen on Christie’s signature – Aberdeen the most notable. Provided he’ll get playing time in the first-team, the Celtic midfielder should be happy to extend his deal at Parkhead. The work will then begin over the summer to ensure he gets in the squad.
