Leeds United defender Aapo Halme has confirmed he’s returned to training after two months out with a foot injury, reports Finnish publication Iltalehti.
The 19-year-old picked up the injury not long after joining the Yorkshire giants from HJK Helsinki in January. He’s still waiting to make his debut.
The 6ft 4 centre-back, a Finnish u21 international, was a first-team player at his former club (36 appearances in all competitions) but was immediately drafted into the reserve side at Leeds to develop before making the step up to the Championship.
Halme has revealed he’s been building his strength in the gym in preparation for the physicality of English football.
It’s unknown if the Finnish teenager would have made an immediate impact following his January move, but his injury robbed him of the chance.
Leeds have conceded 53 goals in 38 games this season, leading manager Paul Heckingbottom to promote youngsters. Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper have not impressed, while Matthew Pennington has struggled for fitnesss.
Halme is viewed as a player for the future, but it will be interesting to see if he can make an impact at u23 level.
