Celtic are facing up the prospect of a future without Tom Rogic and could be forced to sell the Australian star but Ki Sung-Yeung is available for free with his Swansea contract expiring.
Though somewhat injury-prone and not the most consistent member of Brendan Rodgers’ squad, few players at Celtic’s disposal can change a game on an instant like the Aussie playmaker, whose penchant for wonder-goals has earned him plenty of admirers at Parkhead.
But according to the World Game, the Australian international has rejected a new contract, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the next season. Therefore, the Scottish Premiership champions may just be forced to cash in on Rogic amid fears that he could eventually leave the club for free.
Though if the forward does leave, perhaps the best way to ease the disappointment that follows would be to welcome a former fans favourite back to Parkhead.
According to Italian news publication Corriere dello Sport, the South Korean captain will be out of contract at Swansea City this summer and is yet to speak to the South Wales outfit about a new deal – raising shock interest from Italian giants AC Milan.
Ki, however, was a hugely important figure across three seasons at Celtic after his 2009 move from FC Seoul for £2.1 million. It was his six goals in 30 appearances that played a major part as Neil Lennon’s side won the Scottish Premiership title in 2012 for the first time in four years.
And at 29-years-old, he would still have much to offer during a second spell in Glasgow, with his experience and ability to drive forward from central midfield perhaps making him an inspired and low cost – £7m-rated – replacement should Rogic depart.
