Former England captain and Everton player Wayne Rooney is now in the news, as the former Manchester United player is now tipping his former team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan to succeed at Arsenal, and has stated the reason why the offensive midfielder didn’t thrive with Manchester United.
Rooney is now claiming that the Armenian International was not given enough “freedom” at Old Trafford which saw him drop drastically in form since joining the Red Devils in the summer of 2016.
The 28-year-old was involved in a swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move to Old Trafford and Mkhitaryan to Arsenal last month during the winter transfer window.
The Armenian International only play with the Red Devils for 18 months after suffering an injury in those months and drop low in form, which saw him down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho‘s squad this season.
However, upon his arrival at the Emirates, the 28-year-old was reunited with his former team-mate at Borussia Dortmund Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The playmaker got his first start as an Arsenal player in the weekend with fellow team-mate Aubameyang against Everton FC and bagged to himself three assists in the match and Auba scoring on his debut, Aaron Ramsey scored an Hat trick which ended in a 5-1 victory.
Rooney speaking on the midfielder told Monday Night football (via Give Me Sport):
“I think he is [better suited to Arsenal].
I saw it in training with him – he’s a very talented played. At United he didn’t get the freedom he really wanted to perform which he had at Dortmund. It was a different style and at Arsenal he’ll have players round him. He’ll create goals, he’ll score goals and I think he’ll kick on.”
Rooney had to watch from the bench as Mkhitaryan and his team destroy the Merseydiers on Saturday.
The 32-year-old was dropped in the Everton squad that faced the Gunners as he also has also dropped in form and the arrival of Cenk Tosun hindered his impact on the team.
