According to German outlet Fussballeck, the outlet claim the 29-year-old Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic is a target for Scottish giants Celtic and French side St Etienne.
Subotic has been with the Bundesliga giants for a decade but has fallen out the pecking order from the first team fold over the last 18 months.
There’s little doubt that the Bhoys are in the market for experienced central defenders but it’s difficult to judge if there is genuine interest in the Serb who’s rated at €4m via Transfermkt or just a creative agent drumming up interest in a client.
Brendan Rodger’s Celtic side did sign Marvin Compper from the Bundesliga earlier this month but the ex-RB Leipzig defender will be out of action for a couple of weeks with a calf injury.
In mid last-week, Erik Sviatchenko moved out on loan with Kris Ajer and Dedryck Boyata left as the current first choice central defenders.
Celtic’s other January signing, Lewis Morgan was in action for St Mirren against Aberdeen in today’s lunchtime Scottish Cup tie.
Elsewhere, Rodgers delivered a positive transfer update to fans, saying that he wants to bring more players in this current window.
The Northern Irish manager was talking ahead of his side Scottish Cup clash with Brechin which ended to his side favour in an interest 5-0 and the news will be welcomed by fans who have had Old Firm rivals Glasgow Rangers strengthen their squad.

Celtic’s last of activity this window has made the fans restless after Rangers confirmed Jason Cummings from Nottingham Forrest after already signing Russell Martin, Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy.
Rodgers was quoted as saying he wants “quality” players who can make a difference for Celtic, but mentioned no possible targets.
