Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic is the latest defender to be linked with Brendan Rodgers‘ Celtic in the January transfer window.

The report was according German outlet Fussballeck via Football Weeks that claimed the 29-year-old Dortmund defender is a target for Scottish giants Celtic whilst also stating Ligue 1 giants St Etienne are also interested in him.

According to the reports, the Bhoys could sanction a move for Subotic as part of reinforcement for the defensive woes and serve as a replacement for injured Marvin Compper who joined the club earlier this month from RB Leipzig. If these latest transfer rumour is true then Celtic fans will be happy.

Since Rodgers appointing as the Celtic boss in the summer of 2016, the Northern Irish boss has brought in some fantastic signing to the the club, such as Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair.

Subotic, though, if reports are anything to go by, would Rodgers’ best signing ever at the club, if indeed he is able to secure the services of the 29-year-old central defender.

Although Subotic hasn’ really been impressive for the Bundesliga side as he was two or three years ago and is a squad player for the Westfalenstadion outfits at the moment, but there is no doubt that the Serbian international would be an instant hit at Celtic.

A classy, ball-playing central defender who has huge of experience in playing in the Champions League, the Serb would be the best thing since slice bread for Celtic at defence which the club have been looking for since the exit of Virgil van Dijk to Southampton in the summer of 2015.

Leaving the Bundesliga side for the Scottish Premiership would be a step down for Subotic, but if Rodgers can convince the Serbian to make the switch to Celtic Park even on loan, then it would be a massive coup for the Glasgow giants.
